Higher tier = larger, cleaner fig. Afghan Anjeer is hand-sorted at origin into commercial tiers by size, colour uniformity, and blemish-free skin. Grade A is the top tier — larger, uniformly golden-amber figs with minimal splitting. We source Grade A specifically and hand-sort again on arrival.

01 · Snacking

Daily Mindful Snack

3-4 figs (approx. 30-40g) is a sensible daily portion — dried fruit is calorie-dense per gram compared to fresh fruit. Pair with a handful of nuts for a balanced snack.

02 · Soaking

Overnight Soak

A traditional preparation: soak 2-3 figs in warm water or milk overnight, then eat first thing in the morning. Softens the texture and is a common household routine.

03 · Cooking

Barfi, Halwa & Sweets

Anjeer is a traditional base for barfi and halwa. Blend soaked figs into a paste as a natural sweetener and binder in place of refined sugar in Indian sweets.

04 · Breakfast

Oats, Yogurt & Smoothies

Chop and stir into oatmeal, yogurt, or blend into a smoothie for natural sweetness without added sugar. Works well in trail mixes and granola too.

05 · Gifting

Premium Gift-Ready

The reusable glass jar and A-Grade sourcing make this an ideal standalone gift or part of a Nutty Best Co. hamper. Available as part of our Gourmet Select gift sets.

Origin Story

Why Afghan for the finest anjeer?

Afghanistan is one of the principal fig-growing country. Hot, dry summers and cool nights create ideal ripening conditions, and dried figs are one of Afghanistan’s most valuable fruit exports after pomegranates and grapes. Fresh figs are harvested and sun-dried within days, since the fresh fruit spoils quickly and doesn’t travel.

One of Afghanistan's most valuable fruit exports

Dried figs rank third in export value after pomegranates and grapes — a crop the region has traded for generations

Hot, dry climate = ideal for sun-drying

Hot days and cool nights concentrate natural sugars during ripening; traditional sun-drying preserves flavour without chemical treatment.

A-Grade preserved through hand-sorting

Hand-sort ensures the top tier specification is maintained through to the jar

On-Pack Claims

What we can honestly say on the label.

Every claim below is built from a Report.

No Added Sugar

Single ingredient — 100% dried figs, <1g added sugar per 100g, lab-confirmed.

High in Dietary Fibre

10.35g Fibre per 100g, lab-verified — clears the FSSAI “High Fibre” threshold (≥6g/100g).

Naturally Fat-Free

0.94g Total Fat per 100g, lab-verified — clears the FSSAI “Low Fat” threshold (≤3g/100g).

Cholesterol Free & Trans Fat Free

<1mg Cholesterol, <0.10g Trans Fat per 100g — and unlike our almonds SKU, saturated fat here (0.122g/100g) clears the ≤1.5g/100g pairing rule, so both claim terms can genuinely be used.

Ultra-Low Sodium

Just 4.40mg Sodium per 100g (1.32mg per 30g serving), lab-verified.

Why figs can claim more than almonds

FSSAI’s “Trans Fat Free” and “Cholesterol Free” claim terms both require saturated fat ≤1.5g/100g as a paired condition. Our almonds batch (4.39g/100g saturated fat) fails that pairing, so those claims are stated as plain facts there. This figs batch (0.122g/100g) clears it comfortably — a genuine product difference, not an inconsistency between pages.

*Nutrition and claim wording shown here is a working draft based on lab data for 100g reference serving.

Frequently asked questions

Answers about our Afghan Figs A grade (anjeer).

Honest answers about grade, sourcing, sugar content, and delivery.

What does A-Grade mean for Afghan dried figs?

Afghan Anjeer is manually sorted at origin into quality tiers based on size, colour uniformity, and the percentage of blemish-free skin. A-Grade is the top commercial tier — larger, more uniformly golden-amber figs with minimal splitting or blemish, hand-picked out from Grade B (mixed sizes, minor surface marks) and Grade C (broken pieces, smaller size, used mainly for processing). Nutty Best Co. sources A-Grade specifically and hand-sorts again on arrival in Mumbai.

Where do these figs come from, and why Afghanistan?

These figs are grown in Afghanistan — among the country’s principal fig-growing regions. Afghanistan’s hot, dry summers and cool nights are considered ideal for figs, and dried figs are one of Afghanistan’s most valuable fruit exports after pomegranates and grapes. Figs are harvested fresh in July-September and sun-dried within days, since fresh figs spoil quickly and don’t travel well.

Do these figs have any added sugar or preservatives?
No. Nutty Best Co. Premium Afghan Dried Figs are a single ingredient — 100% sun-dried Afghan anjeer. No added sugar, no sulphur dioxide, no preservatives, no artificial colouring. The natural sweetness comes entirely from the fruit’s own sugars, concentrated through sun-drying. This is different from some lower-cost dried figs on the market, which can be treated with sulphur dioxide to preserve colour.
Are dried figs fat-free and cholesterol-free?
Yes. Dried figs are naturally very low in fat and contain no cholesterol, since they are a fruit product with no added oils or dairy. They are also naturally high in dietary fibre. As with any dried fruit, figs are calorie-dense per gram compared to fresh fruit, so a sensible portion (about 3-4 figs, 30-40g) is recommended as part of a balanced diet.
Where can I buy Nutty Best Co. Afghan dried figs in Mumbai, Delhi, or Bangalore?

How long do dried figs stay fresh, and how should I store them?

Sealed in the food-grade jar, these figs maintain peak quality for 5 months (date printed on jar) — dried figs keep exceptionally well due to their low moisture content. Once opened, consume within 60-90 days for best texture. Keep the jar sealed in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight; refrigerate during humid summer months to prevent the natural sugars from crystallising on the surface, which is harmless but affects texture.
