The thin natural skin is left intact, as it’s part of the whole kernel; some people find it mildly bitter and prefer to soak the kernels briefly before eating to soften this.
How long do walnuts stay fresh, and how should I store them?
Walnuts have the highest fat content of any common tree nut, which means they go rancid faster than almonds or cashews if stored poorly.
